2018 JAGUAR E-PACE VS. AUDI Q3 COMPARISON

Jaguar E-PACE stands out in its class

With a modern interior, long list of technology features and a sporty drive, the 2018 Jaguar E-PACE is expected to have an immediate impact on the compact sports-utility market. There is a lot to like about this smaller SUV option and it matches up well with the competition like the Audi Q3.

Price

The all-new E-PACE comes in the base model with three trim options. The E-PACE starts at $38,600 while the S starts at $41,500 and the SE starts at $44,300. The R-Dynamic line with leather upholstery, power seats and 18-inch wheels starts at $47,250 and ranges to the HSE model at $53,100. The First Edition with 21-inch wheels, unique paint options and upgraded equipment starts at $54,545. The Audi Q3 has fewer options with the Premium model starting at $32,900 and the Premium Plus coming in at $35,800 but only comes in front-wheel drive while the E-PACE is all-wheel drive.

Features

The E-PACE is larger than the Audi Q3 both inside and out. Both are comparable in leg room, but the E-PACE has more head and shoulder room. The E-PACE also has a larger storage capacity in the cargo area. The E-PACE all-wheel drive is helped by the All-Surface Progress Control that gives added confidence on wet roads and a low-speed cruise control that give more traction in all conditions. With JaguarDrive Control, you can move through four driving modes seamlessly. The Infotainment system includes Configurable Dynamics that allows you to personalize settings to suit your driving needs. A vertical tablet-style touchscreen highlights the infotainment system with voice control. The Audi screen comes out of the dash but is not nearly as accessible as the E-PACE. The Audi Q3 comes with a navigation system with 3D satellite imagery and a wi-fi hotspot that can connect up to eight passenger devices.

Efficiency

The E-PACE is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 246 horsepower. It is expected to have an EPA estimated 24 miles per gallon in the city and 28 on the highway. Those numbers drop by one with the R-Dynamic powertrain and are competitive in its class. The Audi Q3 Premium and Premium Plus get a combined 23 miles per gallon with an EPA estimated 20 miles per gallon in the city and 28 miles per gallon on the highway with its 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

So while the Audi Q3 may be priced a little lower than the E-PACE, Jaguar has delivered a compact SUV that gives you more room to move with the driving technology you have come to expect from a luxury line of vehicles.
