Jaguar E-Pace vs Volvo XC40

Compact Luxury SUVs Side by Side - Comparing the Jaguar E-PACE vs. the Volvo XC40

The name Jaguar is instantly recognizable around the globe as a go-to luxury brand that drivers can count on to deliver elegance and refinement. At Jaguar Huntington, we're proud to be the Long Island area's destination of choice for the entire luxurious lineup from our favorite carmaker, and we want to help you understand what sets Jaguar craftsmanship and engineering apart from other brand names you may be considering.

Take the new Jaguar E-PACE SUV, for example. Our smallest SUV, this impressive and eye-catching model is available in a variety of customizable configurations, including with either gas or hybrid power. But we know it's not the only luxury brand, small SUV vying for your attention.

To illustrate what makes Jaguar design and performance the best around, we've highlighted our E-PACE against the similarly sized Volvo XC40. Read on to learn more. You'll find that, while both SUVs take up the slot of smallest model in their respective lineups, the E-PACE comes out ahead in several key areas.

Jaguar E-PACE vs. Volvo XC40

  • Power. While both small SUVs give drivers an assortment of engine options to choose from, the Volvo can't quite meet the level of power that comes standard with every Jaguar E-PACE. Our E-PACE starts with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that offers 266 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. The XC40, meanwhile, starts with just 187 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque from its base engine. Move up to the optional upgrades for both models, and the E-PACE continues to dominate, with 296 horsepower available, compared to 248 horsepower for the Volvo.
  • Standard AWD. Long Island drivers who prefer their SUV with the added peace of mind and traction of all-wheel drive will be at home with the Jaguar E-PACE, which has standard AWD across the lineup. The Volvo XC40, on the other hand, comes standard with front-wheel drive and makes all-wheel drive only available as an add-on option.
  • Fuel range. A larger fuel tank in the Jaguar E-PACE means it can also take you further in between fill ups than the Volvo XC40. Equipped with a tank that holds nearly 18 gallons, the E-PACE has a range of 354 miles in the city or 460 miles on the highway. But the Volvo, with a tank that holds 14 gallons, gets a range of 327 miles city and 454 miles highway.
  • Size and interior space. From the outside, the Volvo XC40 actually has a slightly wider wheelbase and a longer size than the Jaguar E-PACE. But you'd never know that the E-PACE is the smaller SUV from the inside. Not only does it offer nearly identical amounts of headroom and legroom, but it also has a larger capacity cargo hold in the rear. Look for 22.4 cubic feet of cargo space in the Jaguar model, and just 20 cubic feet in the Volvo.
  • Standard features. The Jaguar E-PACE also has a longer list of standard features and amenities than the Volvo XC40. From connectivity to safety, you can look forward to more sought-after amenities with the Jaguar than with the Volvo, including a standard 360-degree camera system and wireless device charging, both of which are just optional with the Volvo SUV.
